Portable Appliance Testing ( PAT )
PAT testing is necessary to ensure that appliances have not deteriated electrically over time and during use. Insulation can break down and in Class 1 appliances the earthed metalwork may have become disconnected. All appliances, whether industrial, commercial or domestic, should be tested periodically, the frequency depending on the type of appliance. Hand held appliances normally need more frequent testing, such as hair dryers & drills.
All appliances that are provided with rented property are the responsibilty of the landlords and should be tested annually. There could be penalties if a fatality occurred as a result of a breach of the regulations and a separate civil case was brought. If reported, the prosecuting authority would be the Health and Safety Executive.
We can visit your property and test your appliances from £65, which includes up to twenty items (some appliances, such as computers, may have as much as seven separate items such as plug in leads, printers, scanners, etc that need to be individually tested). There is a surcharge of £2.99 for each extra appliance/ item. Some appliances have separate leads, such as kettles, which can be moved around and plugged into other appliances. it is therefore imperative that these leads are tested separately from the appliance that they serve.
